Born in London in 1965, Richard Pelling spent his childhood in both France and London. He first studied art at West Sussex Art College, before completing a BA at the Central School of Art & Design in London.

Although painting has long been an important part of his life, in 1988 he began a career in textile design, working mostly from London, but also in Japan and North America, with clients including Missoni, Ralph Lauren, and Calvin Klein. Alongside this, he also taught at London’s St Martin’s College of Art, and now paints full time from his studio in Lewes, East Sussex.
